Old School

Happy new year to Capcom fans and arcade game nuts everywhere!

I've just uploaded a new game list, this time for Z80 and 68000 boards released prior to CPS1. I've also updated the two other lists having spent time scouring the web for pcb images to get board and rom codes etc. These lists are now very nicely fleshed out!

I intend to add two further lists, one for CPS3 games and one for those Capcom released on Sony's ZN-1 and ZN-2 hardware. After giving it some thought, I've decided to skip Mitchell hardware and other oddballs like Capcom Bowling (Incredible Technologies).

In the future I might expand to Sega ST-V and Naomi, but for now I think first party hardware (plus the Sony games) is enough to be getting on with!

Once I get those further two lists done, I intend to start some actual blogging, showing off my collection and putting up an entry for each game I own with all the info and artwork I can find. These will then be linked to from the relevant list. Hopefully. You can do that with a blog right!?

I have also been spending some hobby time acquiring new boards and have recently picked up Strider 2, Super Street Fighter II, Knights of the Round and Carrier Airwing. On top of that I've got some more stuff lined up for a shipment from Japan, not to mention the 10 or so boards I already owned before I began this little project, so I think I've got enough material to last me until 2015 already!

In related news, there's this cool new arcade podcast at http://tenpencearcade.co.uk which is worth a listen, especially as the first episode is all about Capcom's 1984 arcade game Pirate Ship Higemaru!

Game Lists

I've now created two lists that you can access from the main index on the left, one for CPS1 releases, one for CPS2.

After chrd on Arcade Otaku very helpfully suggested I use web.archive.org to try and dig up some content from the system16 hosted site I mentioned in my last post, I've spent the day populating these lists with some relevant info. The two lists are not entirely complete, so hopefully I can add to them both in the future.

Welcome to my blog!

So I've decided to start this blog. What is it for?

I'm passionate about arcade games, particularly those created by video games giant Capcom. This blog will serve as a way for me to record which games I pick up, but also will act as a virtual museum. I intend to post up info about each game I collect, along with any artwork I can find, dip settings and other related bits and pieces which might interest fellow otakus.

My inspiration for this blog comes from a few places, but in particular from an old page that used to be up on the web, but seems long-since gone. I believe it's author referred to himself as "Strider" and it was hosted up on www.system16.com - an excellent resource in itself. This page in particular had a list of all CPS-era Capcom games, scans of official art set pieces, information on suicide batteries and the like. It was great, but then one day it got hacked, was pulled from the web and never reappeared.

My goal is to collect every CPS-1 and CPS-2 game. Not full kits (hello richy13) as I don't have the funds for that, but maybe "gamer" kits. You know; working boards, move strips, manuals. Whether I'll ever get there I don't know. I'll certainly skip some Japan-only releases like quiz and mahjong games as they hold no interest for me, but I certainly want to cover the major releases.

I know very little about blogging, although I'm reasonably web-savvy, so this project is very much a work in progress. Expect sporadic updates as I tend to be pretty boom-and-bust with my hobbies. But I always come back to this stuff.
